The wonder of organic

All of the herbs we use in our teas and wellbeing range are 100% certified organic – a simple glance at the Soil Association logo on the back of our packs tells you so. But, for Pukka, organic is more than a logo or buzzword: organic is our religion.

Properly grown organic herbs taste incredible, there’s no doubt about it. But organic means more than just great taste or less chemicals (although, naturally, this is very important).

We love organic thinking because it means giving back what we take out during our time here on planet earth. It’s a holistic way of living and being that matches our own guiding principles of living with respect for the world around us.

Organic: more than just a badge

To be truly organic, you regenerate the soil that feeds your family. You try and improve what you’ve been given. You respect the part that wildlife and microorganisms play in the ecosystem. And along the journey of life, you create virtuous cycles that reward all those you connect with.

In many ways, organic farming embodies the essence of Ayurveda – the ancient Indian philosophy that flows through the heart of Pukka.

Like Ayurveda, organic wisdom centres on the wellbeing of the ‘whole’; it is a way of reconnecting people with the soil, the plants, and the planet – because they’re all equally dependent on one another for their health and happiness.

Ever since we started Pukka, we’ve been passionate about connecting people and plants. Organic methods bring people together with plants, and plants with people, for the good of everyone – and it’s this exchange of goodness that makes organic principles special to us, and so much more than just a badge.

Organic: from field to shelf

Because we believe so strongly in the wonder of organic methods, everything we do – from the fields where our herbs are grown (in sustainably managed certified organic projects), to the organic string we use on our tea bags – has organic principles at the core.

As a result of this passion and drive, we’ve committed to organic certification from the Soil Association, the UK’s founding and leading organic community.

This means that all of our ingredients are certified to EU organic standards and are traceable back to their origin – not only giving you the reassurance that you are getting the very best quality, but also connecting you – through us – with the growers and the farms on which the plants are grown.

As the great Mahatma Ghandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. Well, by drinking Pukka teas, you can help us create ever-increasing cycles of good around the planet: from the wonderful feeling that comes with connecting with nature in your own home, all the way back to the growers who you support and reward for their hard work.

Sebastian Pole, Co-founder and Herbal Director

I’m Co-founder and Herbal Director at Pukka Herbs. As well as formulating all our organic products, I run my own herbal practice in Bath which I’ve done since 1998. I’m a registered member of the Ayurvedic Practitioners Association, Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine and the Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners. All this with the aim of using the principles of Ayurveda (the ancient art of living wisely) to help create positive change and positive health. Inspired by my time in India, I love cooking a vegetarian feast and rely on regular yoga practice and herbal supplementation to keep me well. I am passionate about running a business that inspires positive change and brings the benefit of the incredible power of plants to everyone we connect with. I live on a two acre garden-farm in Somerset where I grow a rainbow spectrum of medicinal and nourishing plants for my bees and family to live from.
