B Corp: Using business as a force for good

B Corps are a new kind of business acting in a sustainable and transparent way. We all meet the highest environmental and social standards.

When you buy from a B Corp it’s a small step toward a better world for all.

The B Corp way – business as a force for good

As a certified B Corp member, we are rigorously assessed on the mission that we were founded on: to connect people, plants and the planet through the incredible power of organic plants in the most ethical and sustainable ways possible.

Like all B Corps, we are assessed by completing the B Impact Assessment every three years, cementing our ongoing commitment to meet higher standards of transparency, accountability and performance - offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.

People

As part of our commitment to Fair for Life (the gold standard in fair and ethical trade), Pukka ensures everyone, from our growers and collectors around the world, are paid fairly and have good working conditions.

We hope everyone feels the benefits of working with Pukka and this begins in our global home and headquarters in Bristol. When designing our headquarters (our Herb House) we were very conscious of creating an inclusive environment that suits different working styles.

At Pukka, we actively promote a development culture with a strong emphasis on learning programmes in nature. Mindfulness courses are offered to all our employees in addition to four volunteering days annually. Employees can also claim back costs in connection to personal wellbeing and development activity.

These benefits are unique to working at Pukka and support our culture by keeping our people connected to our mission. 94% of Pukka people said they would recommend Pukka as a great place to work in our last employee survey.

Plants

In 2016, Pukka Herbs became one of the first companies in the UK to join 1% for the Planet, which means Pukka donates at least 1% of annual turnover - sales, not profit - to environmental not-for-profit organisations.

The non-profits that we choose to donate to share our passion for connecting people with the power of nature and the health and wellbeing benefits of plants,. and help us tell our story of operating as a sustainable business, supporting people, plants and the planet.

Pukka’s 1% for the Planet donation is made up of several different areas:

  • The premiums we pay to our farmers, via our commitments to fair sourcing certifications;

     and

  • A growing set of strategic partnerships with non-profits across the world including the Eden Project, Soil Association and Natural History Museum in the UK, Foundation Good Planet in France and new projects coming soon in Germany, the US and beyond

  • The non-profits we work with to deliver our sustainability project work to ensure Pukka has a positive impact on our employees, communities and the environment

  • The non-profits we support near to our headquarters in Bristol to benefit the local community

Planet

"As the Sustainability Manager here at Pukka, it’s my privilege to see how many of the steps we take to add up to hugely positive change. Over the last few years, we’ve put in a huge effort to understand our total carbon footprint, by completing a crop to cup carbon survey which helped us break down how we can have a more positive impact on the planet.

We are the first UK company of our size to have our climate goal – to be carbon zero by 2030 – validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi)." Vicky Murray, Sustainability Manager, Pukka Herbs.

These are just some of the areas we are showing our commitment to being a certified B Corp. Visit the official B Corp website to see a breakdown of Pukka's full B Corp score and also browse the entire range of B Corp products available to buy here in the UK.
