Senior Technical Project Manager

We’re looking for an interim Technical Lead (Senior Technical Project Manager) to join our team, and be responsible for managing the delivery of the technical feasibility programme for Pukka’s innovation roadmap across the portfolio. Based in our award-winning Bristol head office and reporting to our Herbal & Sustainability Director, we’re looking for someone to join us on an interim contract for 12 months covering a maternity leave. This full-time role comes with a salary of £60,000 to £65,000 per annum depending on experience, alongside a benefits package designed to nurture your wellbeing and personal development. We have a blended approach to working at Pukka where you have the opportunity to work 60% from home, 40% from our Herb House office each month.
About the opportunity
This role is responsible for the technical delivery of innovation and renovation projects including the feasibility and capability work, and technical project management.
You will lead the herbal technical team, enabling a collaborative and open culture and also support with prioritisation and workload and budget management aligning to Pukka’s strategic plan.
In this role you will manage the technical programme for Product, Packaging, Specifications and Food labelling compliance. This includes early evaluation of technical feasibility, proving technical feasibility of Product and Packaging including claims through trials and testing, technical specification creation and approval and technical inputs into artwork creation and approval.
You’ll also manage and be part of the technical project lead capability across Tea, Supplements, Gifting and Innovation Hub projects, who are responsible for partnering with our Marketing team to deliver projects. Key responsibilities include technical risk assessment, timeline management, working with ekaterra teams for alignment on claims, safety and regulatory aspects and coordinating the technical workstreams for NPD/EPD projects.
As a Senior leader within a wider Herbal team, you’ll help to shape the Herbal team strategy and role, as well as the role of the Technical team within it; hence previous experience and demonstrable knowledge of working strategically within a similar role will be important.
This is a very collaborative role working with numerous stakeholders. Building excellent working relationships with the rest of the Herbal team and wider Pukka teams, including Marketing, Quality and Supply Chain and ekaterra, you’ll also build strong relationships with our suppliers and 3PMs.
With substantial experience in the food industry, you’ll have strong technical expertise and project management skills with a track record of delivering and/or coordinating complex technical projects. You’ll have a degree-level background in food engineering, science, or technology to draw on and experience of working within large global organisations with complex systems and processes.
Experience in leading, motivating and developing a team is essential for this role, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills for managing a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Through your experience, you’ll be used to identifying risks and offering product and process solutions that mitigate or solve them. In addition, you’ll be able to spot trends and provide simple yet impactful analysis that can inform the next steps. You’ll be able to effectively manage both workload and the budget for the technical team, prioritising clearly and responding to change with balanced positivity. You’ll be motivated to keep up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies for food manufacturing, packaging, and product design.
The role requires a flexible individual who’s experienced and comfortable with thinking and planning strategically and is also strong at the detail, able to manage multiple changing projects and priorities, providing clarity and direction for the team. You will be highly organised, enthusiastic and positive, with a curious and naturally inquisitive approach to your work.
