Are you passionate about product packaging and materials and looking for your next challenge? Do you aspire to work for a purposeful, sustainable, and growing ethical brand where you can work on end-to-end sustainable packaging solutions to ensure our beautiful products stay future fit and ready to sell?
Based in our award-winning Bristol head office, we are looking for a Packaging Technologist to join our busy team. The role is a permanent full-time role, with a competitive salary of up to £32k per annum depending on experience. This sits alongside a benefits package designed to nurture your wellbeing and personal development.
About the role
As Pukka’s Packaging Technologist you’ll champion not just our packaging quality but its sustainability. Working closely across the Marketing, Herbal/Quality and Procurement teams you will deliver and drive improvements within our existing product ranges and support the successful execution of our new product development. From compostable film materials to automated lidding applications, new mug ceramics to starch formed trays, no two days are the same in this highly varied role as you will cover the breadth of work on our packaging solutions.
Pukka are passionate about driving sustainability throughout our product design and this is at the heart of our packaging decisions. As the Packaging Technologist you’ll ensure our products are produced safely and consistently whilst maintaining our sustainability improvements. Communication of these complex assessments must be clear to ensure consumer messaging is never misleading.
Skilled at coordinating between multiple parties and stakeholders, you will work to find resolutions to issues by suggesting process and material improvements and ensure continuity of supply across the portfolio. You will attend site meetings and trials with third party manufacturers (with Covid-19 restrictions this is less frequent) and work quickly and efficiently to help provide issues resolution, cost improvements and meet Pukka’s sustainability targets.
Finally, as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) you will support across Pukka on the packaging, materials and manufacturing application. With a good working knowledge of packaging standards, risk assessments and challenges you’ll be a go-to expert for the business who can provide in-depth support and solutions.
With proven technical understanding and expertise surrounding multiple packaging formats and materials, you will be able to draw on your previous experience working as a Packaging Technologist or Packaging Engineer supporting change and improvements. Importantly this must have been within outsourced manufacturing environments. With experience of working within an FMCG or a fast-paced organisation supporting consumer product delivery, you will be skilled at managing a diverse range of stakeholders and distilling complex packaging detail to different audiences.
With a passion for working with new material technologies to drive sustainability improvements, this will be underpinned by a good understanding of EU & Global Direct Food Contact Packaging legislation and risk assessments. Experience of printed packaging and artwork controls processes is desirable but not essential.
Drawing on your project management skills, you’ll have a proven track record of delivering and coordinating multiple, complex, technical projects. You’ll be highly organised, and able to reprioritise as events demand it. You will also have a proactive and problem-solving mindset, always looking to continuously improve our solutions.
If you are to be our new Packaging Technologist you’ll thrive at pace, be resilient dealing with ambiguity, and turn challenge and obstacles into decisive and purposeful action. You’ll be someone who seizes opportunities to benefit the wider business and communications goals and be passionate about contributing to a purpose-led mission – everything you do is designed to inspire people to lead a more conscious life through the incredible power of plants.
