Herb Buyer

Do you aspire to work for a purposeful, sustainable, fast paced and growing ethical business? Do you aspire to become a Buyer within the food industry, and develop your skills in purchasing and logistics?

Based in our award winning Bristol head office with occasional international travel, the Herb Buyer is a permanent full-time role, with a competitive salary of up to £28k per annum depending on experience alongside a benefits package designed to nurture your wellbeing and personal development.

About the role

This exciting opportunity calls for an outstanding candidate to be responsible for Pukka’s herbal raw materials buying, which is needed to support Pukka’s sales and growth. Ensuring that the optimal balance between our quality standards, sustainability and ethical values is achieved, this is a key role within our procurement team.

The Herb Buyer will be responsible for efficient buying of herbal raw materials for Pukka products, compliant to our domestic and international suppliers’ specifications, as well as ensuring continuity of supply in line with forecast and agreed costs. Anticipating and resolving material shortages and surpluses is essential, as well as liaising with QC on samples to ensure timelines are maintained. In addition to these purchasing responsibilities, you’ll organise and oversee transport arrangements and supplier agreements, and control the delivery of raw materials after shipment approval, including further processing, sterilisation and logistics.

Day to day, the role will involve liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including international suppliers, freight handlers, Customs, QC and supply chain colleagues. It will also involve the accurate and timely upkeep of internal systems, regular reporting, coordinating supplier payments and invoicing, and ensuring continuity of supply and achievement of our key business targets.

About you

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in supply chain management, logistics or business studies (or an equivalent). It is desirable to have buying experience gained within the food industry, and strong commercial awareness. Knowledge of (organic) plant cultivation, and wild harvesting techniques and their relationship with product quality would be advantageous in this role but is not essential. Supply chain knowledge of systems and processes from supplier to consumer would also be beneficial.

An excellent communicator, you will be skilled at building and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal colleagues and all external partners and stakeholders. You will also be adept at negotiating and influencing, and working well with everyone in your network. This role will also include working internationally so an empathetic and culturally sensitivity approach to your work is crucial.

With excellent attention to detail, and a highly numerate and analytical approach to your work, you will be organised and able to prioritise effectively. You will also be someone who pro-actively grabs opportunities to create solutions and has resilience and persistence to see things through.
