Lab Technician

Are you a Lab Technician or graduate in Food Product Development, Nutrition, Science or Chemistry with a background or interest in natural and herbal medicine? Are you looking for a full-time opportunity that supports both the Herbal Development and Quality activities of a purposeful, sustainable, and organic brand?

Based in our award-winning Bristol head office The Herb House, the Lab Technician role is fixed term for 12 months covering a maternity leave. The role is full-time and has a salary of £21,500 per annum alongside a brilliant benefits package designed to nurture your wellbeing and personal development.

About the opportunity

This exciting opportunity requires a flexible and proactive candidate to join us and support across Herbal Development and Quality teams. Reporting to the Herbal Development Lead, this role will cover a range of both administrative and hands-on tasks that support the fast-paced and agile activities of Pukka.

Day to day you will cover a number of different laboratory activities that range from producing development recipes and collating feedback based upon sensory testing to modify new and existing products that are in development. You’ll also quality assess raw materials, liaise with partner laboratories and blending partners, prepare tasting panels, and maintain an inventory and archive of raw material samples.

About you

With previous laboratory experience or qualified with a degree in Food Science, Nutrition or Herbal Medicine, you’ll ideally have some experience working in a food or food supplement business. With an interest in natural medicine, recipe development, or healing traditions and science, you’ll also have a good understanding of the broader context of the environmental movement, especially organic agriculture, and Fairtrade and FairWild standards.

With good organisational skills, you’ll be able to plan, focus and prioritise your work effectively. Communicating well across the two teams is essential, and you’ll be naturally collaborative and build great working relationships. Excellent attention to detail is also crucial to ensure the highest standards are maintained, and a proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft office and other databases, will be necessary to fulfil the role.
