Gokshura is a prostrate herb (i.e. spreads out flat along the ground) that grows as a weed throughout India.
Its spiky fruits are harvested for medicinal purposes and whilst a peril to bare feet, have been (very carefully) harvested and used for healthy living for thousands of years.
The vibrant yellow flowers create carpets of colour with the spikey fruits giving the plant its name, gokshura, meaning ‘scratcher’.
The fruit contains steroidal saponins that are an essential part of its developmental growing cycles.
