Please see the previous FAQ for background detail on current clinical research into the safety of Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) the primary constituent found in licorice.
There is a broad consensus that a safe daily dosage of GA is 120mg per day when taken over a prolonged period. During pregnancy, the figure is 50mg of GA. However, this includes an applied safety factor of 10x the originally calculated figure of 500mg of GA. Therefore, to err on the side of caution, we believe that it is safe to consume two cups of Pukka ‘Three Licorice’ tea per day with each cup containing 40mg of GA. As the majority of Pukka teas contain less than 10mg of GAper cup, these can be drunk freely throughout the day.
