Why does Pukka Motherkind Pregnancy supplement only contain 240 micrograms of folate per serving?

Pukka folates derive from a certified organic blend of amla fruits, guava fruits, holy basil leaves, curry leaves and lemon fruit extracts.  In each daily serving you receive 240 micrograms of folate. The recommended NRV of folate for a non-pregnant woman is 200 micrograms. There is no set NRV for folate during pregnancy, however, research suggests it should be approximately 400 micrograms. Pukka only uses natural food derived folates which have important advantages over synthetic folic acid which, when in high levels, can accumulate in the body raising some health concerns. Dietary inclusion can be made to further increase levels of natural folates. For example, increasing the intake of foods that naturally contain folate such as spinach, avocado, kale, brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, beans and legumes (e.g. peas, blackeye beans), yeast extracts, oranges and orange juice, wheat bran and other whole grain foods. A single avocado is equivalent to almost 60 micrograms of folate, an orange is the equivalent of 40 micrograms and 350g of lentils will provide almost 360 micrograms.

As the Pukka folate is naturally derived from plant material, there are no contraindications to taking additional natural sources of folate alongside the Motherkind Pregnancy supplement.
