As many of our health imbalances are due to the vagaries of the climate we live in and the diet we eat, it is extremely important to follow a seasonal diet eating locally grown food where possible. This is because indigenous or locally grown foods often help to offset some of the impact the climate may have on us.
Have you noticed how watermelons grow in desert regions helping to ‘moisturise’ and ‘lubricate’ the body against the harsh dryness of summer. Refreshing salads mainly grow when it is hot helping to cool the body down. Here in the UK we have an abundance of warming root vegetables that can help to dry some of the wet and mucus forming qualities of our winter.
The value of eating organic is also crucial. It is becoming more and more apparent that eating denatured and artificially nutrified foods is leading to increased health problems in our ‘developed’ societies. Organic foods and herbs taste not only taste better but are also known to have a higher level of nutrients than non organic food. For example, organic milk has 70% more Omega 3 than non-organic milk!
Ayurveda supports living as natural a life as possible. Of course today this requires some flexibility, but by just adding some of the simple and natural recommendations mentioned throughout this course you will see your health transformed on a very profound level.
