Fair Trade & Charities

At Pukka it’s important for us to be able to make a difference by giving something back to the farmers we work with and supporting charities wherever we can. We have grown significantly over the past 5 years and the bigger we have become, the more we have been able to donate, so we'd like to thank all our customers for the support you have given to enable us to make a contribution.

Fair trade is at the heart of our business which is why we source our herbs directly from the farming co-operatives we have helped to set up in India and Sri Lanka. Having a direct link with the farmers allows us to pay them 50-200% above market rates for raw materials. We visit the farmers every year and have built up great relationships with them.

School children from the Ayur-Phal fairtrade projectMost recently, we have set up the Ayur-Phal ‘Gift of Life Fairtrade Project’, in collaboration with an organic farming enterprise in central south-western India called Phalada Agro. Together we are rebuilding and developing a non-government funded rundown secondary school in a remote area of western Karnataka - one of the IUCN’s conservation ‘hot spots’. The aim of the project is to generate a regular income for the school from growing organically certified herbs, improve education and establish an Ayurvedic treatment clinic at the school to care for the children’s health.

To generate funds, for every kilo of herbs that is supplied by Phalada Agro, we will donate US$0.10c to the project. We currently purchase above 35 tonnes of herbs per annum. By helping to establish a small organic herb business, it will create a sustainable source of income that will support the school’s development for years to come.

Passion for Life - Pukka supports Walk the Walk

Walk the Walk are a charity who raises money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care. They are passionate about encouraging women and men to become fitter and healthier and take more responsibility for their own wellbeing as a vital part of prevention. Here at Pukka, we share this same passion for healthy living and we have the same commitment to organic and environmental issues. That's why we are proud to be involved and sponsor the charity again this year.
