According to the 'doctrine of signatures,' the way a plant looks in nature indicates which part of the body it benefits - the leaf of this small creeping plant looks like a brain. It is traditionally used in Ayurveda to nourish the quality of the mind, memory and concentration. Its flavonoid content helps to purify the blood and skin; it is used in skin inflammations and wounds. Practitioners of yoga and meditation use it to enhance their practice and increase their clarity of mind. It is used as a vegetarian delicacy in Sri Lanka and has recently become renowned for helping to assist circulation on long-haul flights.
