The 10 Year Pukka Timeline
Pukka was conceived by Sebastian Pole and Tim Westwell. Sebastian (an Ayurvedic practitioner) and Tim (an IT business developer) certainly came from very different backgrounds, but where they didn’t differ was their combined view on respecting the relationship between humankind and the natural environment, and that it was possible to do business in a way that made a net positive contribution to society. A labour of love, the head office was in fact Tim’s spare bedroom.
Pukka launched its first three organic Ayurvedic teas. The teas were blended to suit dosha types vatta (Relax), pitta (Refresh) and kapha (Revitalise), and went on to set the benchmark for the standard of Pukka teas to come. These three have become classic blends for Pukka. The became the roots for the company and set the seed for our future growth.
Why not do the Dosha Quiz to find out your dosha type?
Pukka’s range of Ayurvedic herbal remedies are launched. Fondly called the ‘Orange Labels’ here at Pukka HQ, this stunning collection of single herbs and formulas really set the bar for sourcing and quality, allowing us to challenge the market in terms of organic, sustainable and vegetarian ingredients, that were then and always will be the best of the best.
Pukka’s second office is opened…in Scandinavia! Where? In another spare room, that’s where. Pukka enthusiasts in Denmark decided Pukka Herbs would go down very well in their neck of the woods, and the rest is Pukka history. Sweden and Norway soon followed suit.
An exciting year indeed, 2005 also saw Pukka partner with Climate Care in order to offset all its manufacturing and transport generated carbon emissions, enforcing the company’s environmental ethos.
Business Post feature Pukka as their feature article: ‘Wealth in health’ – including a rather nice front page pic of Tim in a yogi pose.
